Gaston, Cordoba, Argentina

2012

Gaston, 26, from Cordoba is just about to graduate with a degree in psychotherapy. We met him when couchsurfing with his boyfriend Nikolas. Together they run a vegan food company called Veganos para el Freezer.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I’d like to be invisible so I could see everything in the world. I’m interested in the private things in life.

If you could have dinner with three people, dead or alive, who would they be?

Maturana, a biologist who argues scientifically that what we perceive is only an interpretation. I like people who bring the sciences to philosophy. Freddy Koffman – it would be hilarious to speak with him. He’s brilliant but very human too. And Claudio Naranjo, a brilliant psychologist who introduced the spiritual line to psychology. He is a mystic – nice and deep. What they have in common is that they are brilliant scientists who have brought something new to science. They don’t care about the rules; they follow what they believe and make a difference.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Follow your dreams and be happy because time flies by fast. There’s no time to lose. You can rest when you die. The guy who said that didn’t mean wild dreams like wanting to change the world – that’s too big like a beauty pageant. If you make an impact on your community and change one aspect, you’ll change it all.

What’s the love of your life?

Trying to make an impact on the world. I like to work on my own growth and health, to create the reality that I want to live in. I think the way to do that is through psychologies. I like to work with private lives. To create happiness in your life is to create happiness around you.

What characteristic do you most admire in others?

Passion, or another word would be potential. I like people who connect to that potential. I like people who are responsible for their life and know that they can change it.

What characteristic don’t you like in others?

I don’t like people who think they are eternal, that this dimension is eternal; people who live like they’ll never die.

What characteristic do you most like in yourself?

My ability to love.

What characteristic don’t you like?

The negative thoughts that don’t let me be who I want to be.

What’s your greatest fear?

Not being loved.

Have you ever seen something you can’t explain?

Every day I see things I can’t explain. I hope one day I can explain something. Right now, I only have questions. I think this happens as you get older and learn more. At the start of my degree, if you asked me what psychology was, I could give you a definition; now at the end of my studies I don’t have the answer.
