Suzanne, 54, owns the beautiful Sea and Forest Hostel in Trindade, Brazil. Her and her husband Osmar spend half the year in Brazil and half the year in Suzanne’s native home, Canada. They are both yoga teachers. We had some lessons on their incredible yoga platform amid the rainforest.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

To fly like a bird.

Describe your perfect day.

It would be a day spent doing yoga, going to the beach, and meditating in nature,

What characteristic do you admire in others?

Generosity.

What characteristic do you dislike in others?

Selfishness.

When were you happiest?

When I did my yoga teacher training six years ago. I learned so much.

What’s the love of your life?

My husband. We met 30 years ago in Canada.

If you could travel in time, where would you go?

I’d go back to the golden age. It’s a time described in yoga philosophy where everything was in harmony.

What’s your greatest achievement?

Following my intuition. I’m happy with my life. We’ve travelled a lot and followed what we felt would be good. When a door is open, we go through it.

If you could have dinner with three people, dead or alive, who would they be?

The Dalai Lama, Sivananda and Vishnu-devananda

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

At a family supper, my mother once asked the question ‘what is success?’. My father said “To love and be loved”. I think that’s a very good piece of advice.
